In short: sponsored content is less common on Instagram than it looks. Across 150,826 posts from 3,122 creators in 2026, 27% of creators labelled at least one post as an ad, and only 5% did so regularly (one post in ten or more). Even sponsored creators labelled a median of just 4% of their posts. Sponsorship peaks at 100,000 to 500,000 followers (41%), parenting and food creators are sponsored most, and a sponsored post gets about 31% less engagement than the same creator's other posts.
Brands want to know who else is working with creators, and creators want to know how normal it is to post ads. This report counts the Instagram posts that carry a disclosure label in their caption, across every creator SocialHipper tracks, to show who actually gets sponsored in 2026.
How we measured it
We looked at Instagram posts published between January and October 2026 by creators with at least 1,000 followers and at least 10 posts in the period. A post counts as sponsored when its caption carries an ad label: #ad, #sponsored, "paid partnership", "sponsored by" or a local equivalent such as #werbung or #publi. Gifted posts (#gifted, "PR package") are counted separately. Instagram's built-in "Paid partnership" tag and undisclosed deals don't appear in captions, so these figures are a floor, not a ceiling.
Who gets sponsored, by account size
| Followers | Creators | Labelled at least one ad | Post ads regularly (10%+ of posts) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1K to 10K | 767 | 11% | 1% |
| 10K to 100K | 1,131 | 26% | 4% |
| 100K to 500K | 733 | 41% | 7% |
| 500K to 1M | 199 | 32% | 8% |
| 1M+ | 292 | 35% | 8% |
| All creators | 3,122 | 27% | 5% |
Sponsorship rises steeply from nano to mid-tier creators and then levels off. Whatever their size, sponsored creators keep ads to a small share of their feed: the median was 4% of posts, about one in 25.

| Photography | 97 | 10% |
| Music | 101 | 10% |
Niches with at least 60 creators. Parenting and food creators are sponsored four times as often as music and photography creators. Parenting and fashion, two of the most sponsored niches, were also two of the slowest-growing in our 2026 growth benchmarks.
Sponsored posts get less engagement
Comparing each creator only with themselves (389 creators with at least two labelled ads and five ordinary posts), a sponsored post got a median 69% of the engagement of that creator's ordinary posts, measured as likes and comments per follower. Sponsored posts did worse for 69% of creators; for the top quarter they did as well or better.
Sponsored posts also lean heavily on video: 86% were Reels, against 67% of all posts, with carousels at 11% (against 24%). Given that carousels get the most engagement per follower (see our Reels vs carousels report), brands asking only for Reels may be leaving engagement on the table.
What this means
- Brands: most creators aren't saturated with ads: three in four labelled none this year, so there's room to find creators whose audiences haven't seen many sponsored posts. Expect a sponsored post to get roughly two-thirds of a creator's usual engagement, and judge results against that, not against their best organic post. Check typical rates in our 2026 pricing benchmarks.
- Creators: keeping ads to a small share of your feed is the norm. The creators who get the best results from sponsored posts make them feel like their own content, and a carousel can outperform a Reel.
- Everyone: label paid posts clearly at the start of the caption. See our disclosure guide for the rules.
